Churches – Monasteries
Avgou Monastery
Built into the rock of Mt Didymo, the Avgou Monastery is a unique opportunity for an unforgettable trip. It has been standing in its place near Sellada river for almost a millennium and the landscape you’ll see by leaving the main road behind you is truly unique: trees, waters, steep slopes and a monastery as an integral part of nature. The monastery is not inhabited these days and the church holds mass only a few days a year, but if you’re on vacation in Porto Heli and the AKS Hotels, then the Avgou Monastery is a sight you should not miss.
Aghios Aimilianos
Aghios Aimilianos is a village quite close to Porto Heli that is named after its church. The location is majestic, that’s why the village is now full of residences and vacation homes of businessmen and famous people both from Greece and abroad. The church itself is built on a rock with a view to the sea and that is why many who live in Porto Heli, Ermioni, and other towns prefer it for their ceremonies.
Aghioi Anargyroi Monastery, Ermioni
This is a historic monastery for the region, since it protected and guided the Greeks during the years of the Turkish rule, since its operation dates back to the beginning of the eighteenth century. Today it is also a beautiful destination, where you can admire the architecture of its buildings and the Byzantine art of its icons and murals.
