Spetses – Hydra
Spetses
Right across Porto Heli and Hinitsa Bay, you can see Spetses, a majestic island, which you can easily visit during your stay at the AKS Hotels of the area. You can hire a hydrotaxi that will take you straight to the historic harbor of Spetses from the pier of our hotels,. From there, we would advise you to enjoy the capital of the island on foot, become witnesses of its history by going to the old guns and to the houses of the old captains, through cobblestone streets and next to neoclassical mansions. Of course, Spetses will also provide you with beautiful beaches and an intense nightlife. If you happen to be in the area on the second Saturday of September, then you’ll be able to see the renowned Armata Festival, that includes week long celebrations, with first and foremost being the reenactment of the Naval Battle of Spetses (1822) and the blowing up of the Turkish flagship.
Hydra
Another island you can visit, either straight from Porto Heli and AKS Hotels or from Spetses, is Hydra, a bit farther to the east. Hydra is truly an island that has enchanted everyone that has visited it. With vehicles being banned there, with its unique architecture and great history, the capital of the island, amphitheatrical and magnificent, will offer you an unforgettable island experience. Walking might be one of your very few options, but it is definitely worth your while. From the Miaoulis and Kountouriotis mansions to the cobblestone streets with arched bougainvilleas, Hydra will give everything you expected of a Greek island and then some.
